Monthly meetings of the London Aulos Group, 2015

This informal group began life on 31 May 2014 when Clare Goodall, Peter Holmes, Jeffrey Tribe and I first met in The Warren Room. This was a 2-hour practical session followed by a meal, a formula we agreed to continue. We met again on 19 June at The Lucas Arms, and on 15 August at Middlesex University. In October, Jeffrey and I attended the 2nd Workshop of Dionysus meeting in Tarquinia. We are now publishing dates for the whole of 2015 in order to give those living further away a chance to join us.

These are practical sessions – working hard on reeds, circular breathing and making music – followed by a meal together at which creative conversations can flow. The cost is £15 for the session (for room hire and a contribution to the tutor) plus the meal. The group elects who the tutor(s) will be: I hope that I will be overtaken by new blood and that we will occasionally have international guests.

Rather than a formal organisation, decisions will be made by those who attend the meal afterwards – an informal monthly ‘committee’ meeting. I will publish a brief report on this blog after each meeting, so that this London-based activity may interact with that of international colleagues.

If you live far from London and would like to join us, please let us know of any dates that you could manage as far in advance as possible and we’ll try to schedule a meeting then. Our 2016 dates will be published in June.

One Response to Monthly meetings of the London Aulos Group, 2015

  1. James Lloyd says:

Hi, I’ve just started my PhD at Reading looking at the sanctuary of Artemis Orthia and Archaic music. I was wondering if it would be okay for me to attend the November meeting of the London Aulos Group? I currently don’t own an aulos (though am saving up) but do have practical experience (of a different kind of double-reed) as a bassoonist.
